Convert exact units without mixing meanings
Unit converters look simple, but many search questions fail because the source unit is ambiguous. A quarter can mean an imperial weight unit, an ounce can mean weight or fluid volume, and a percent-grade conversion is not the same as an angle in percent. Choose the unit family first, then confirm the source and target units.
Most measurement conversions use fixed factors, while temperature, fuel economy, percent grade, currency, and bullion require special handling. Exact conversion pages show the working relationship and related tools so users can switch direction or check nearby units without duplicate content.
For engineering, trade, cooking, travel, or finance use, keep rounding until the final step. If the result affects money, safety, shipping, recipes, or compliance, confirm the required unit convention from the document, supplier, or authority involved.
- Confirm the unit family before converting.
- Watch for weight versus volume and inverse units such as fuel economy.
- Round only after the final result when accuracy matters.
